The TransPRIDE study is about how gender-affirming care affects PSA, a blood test for prostate health, including cancer. This study will help doctors find and treat prostate cancer in trans women and non-binary people.
If you’re a trans woman or non-binary person aged 40+ with a prostate, this study is for you. You’ll take a blood test and a follow-up 6 months later. We’re working to improve early prostate cancer detection in our communities.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will taking part affect my gender-affirming care?
No, taking part in this study will not affect your access to any gender-affirming care or NHS services. The study is entirely separate from your clinical care.
What if I change my mind after agreeing to participate in the TransPRIDE study?
Taking part is completely voluntary. You can withdraw at any time, without giving a reason.
Will I get my results back?
Certainly! You will receive an email with your blood test results and a £25 voucher for your time.
What about Spit tests in assessing prostate cancer risk?
There has been some publicity in the news regarding a genetic risk measurement tool, coined by the media as ‘The Spit Test’. Currently, this is only available through a research study and research findings so far have shown it is good way of identifying people who have a high genetic risk of prostate cancer and therefore should have more frequent PSA testing from age 40. ‘The Spit Test’ is not available on the NHS and it is by no means a replacement for the PSA blood test.
